Tote Du Crow was born in Watsonville, California, on January 1, 1858. His parents had roots in Spain and France.
When Tote and his brother Daniel were young, they became involved with the circus. Some stories say they ran away to join the circus on their own. Other stories say their father arranged for them to work with a circus performer.
Tote Du Crow became famous for playing Bernardo in the silent Zorro movies. Bernardo was Zorro's loyal assistant. Later, in the 1950s, another actor named Gene Sheldon played Bernardo for Disney.
Tote Du Crow acted in 36 different movies between 1915 and 1926. His last movie was The Blue Streak, which came out in 1926. He passed away on December 12, 1927, in Los Angeles, California.
