The Touladi River is a river in Quebec, Canada. It flows through the Bas-Saint-Laurent region, which is south of the Gaspé Peninsula. This river passes through different areas, including the Rimouski Wildlife Reserve and the Lac-Témiscouata National Park.

The Touladi River ends its journey by flowing into the eastern side of Lake Témiscouata. This lake is located in the municipality of Saint-Juste-du-Lac, Quebec. You can reach the river by using route 232 East.

The Touladi River's Journey

Where the River Starts

The Touladi River begins at a place called Valandel Pond. This pond is surrounded by a marshy area about 0.9 kilometers wide. The very start of the river is found in the southwest part of the Rimouski Wildlife Reserve. This area is within the Notre Dame Mountains.

The source of the Touladi River is:

  • 1.0 km northwest of where the Rimouski River starts.
  • 3.4 km north of the border between Quebec and New Brunswick.
  • 50.3 km northeast of where the Touladi River joins another body of water.

How the River Flows

The Touladi River travels for about 75.9 kilometers. Its journey can be divided into different parts:

Upper River Course

This part of the river is inside the Rimouski Wildlife Reserve and stretches for 21.5 km.

  • It flows northwest for 3.0 km through a forest.
  • Then, it continues northwest for 9.2 km until it meets a small stream.
  • After that, it turns southwest for 4.2 km, passing under a forest road bridge.
  • It goes southwest for 1.0 km to Dianne stream.
  • The river then flows northwest for 3.0 km, passing another forest road bridge.
  • Finally, it moves westward for 1.1 km, leaving the Rimouski Wildlife Reserve. It then enters the Témiscouata Regional County Municipality.

Middle River Course (First Part)

This section is 12.3 km long and is upstream from the East River.

  • It flows northwest for 2.1 km, going into the Témiscouata Regional County Municipality (RCM).
  • It then goes northwest for 1.3 km, entering the Rimouski-Neigette Regional County Municipality (RCM).
  • The river winds northwest for 2.3 km, reaching the edge of Biencourt.
  • It continues to meander northwest for 2.3 km through Biencourt, reaching Lake Biencourt.
  • The river crosses Lake Biencourt for 2.1 km.
  • It then flows northwest for 1.6 km through a marshy area.
  • Finally, it travels northwest for 0.6 km through marshes in Esprit-Saint. Here, it meets the East River.

Middle River Course (Second Part)

This part of the river is downstream from the East River (Touladi River) and is 25.3 km long.

  • It flows northwest for 2.0 km through marshland in Esprit-Saint.
  • It then turns west and southwest for 9.3 km, forming a border between Biencourt and Lac-des-Aigles.
  • The river goes southwest for 6.7 km, running alongside Eagles Lake.
  • It continues southwest for 6.3 km, flowing next to the Eagles River (Touladi River).
  • Finally, it turns south for 1.0 km, curving around the village of Saint-Michel-du-Squatec. Here, it meets the River Squatec.

Lower River Course

This final section of the Touladi River is 26.0 km long, starting after the Squatec River.

  • It flows southward for 5.5 km, winding its way to the border of Saint-Juste-du-Lac.
  • It then enters the "Lac-Témiscouata National Park" and flows south for 4.9 km to the north shore of “Little Touladi Lake.”
  • The river crosses “Little Touladi Lake” for 4.6 km.
  • It then crosses Lake Touladi for 4.6 km.
  • Finally, it flows southwest for 6.4 km until it reaches its end.

Where the River Ends

The Touladi River empties into the eastern shore of Lake Témiscouata. This is in the municipality of Saint-Juste-du-Lac, Quebec.

The end of the river is located:

  • 3.9 km northwest of downtown Saint-Juste-du-Lac.
  • 6.5 km north of downtown Notre-Dame-du-Lac.
  • 5.7 km east of downtown Cabano.
  • 17.1 km northwest of downtown Dégelis.

River's Name

The name "Touladi River" was officially recognized on December 5, 1968. This was done by the Commission de toponymie du Québec, which is like Quebec's board for geographical names.
