The Tower of Narigües (in Spanish, torre Narigües del Pozacho) was a special kind of tower called an albarrana tower in Madrid, Spain. You can still see parts of it today along the old Muslim Walls of Madrid. It is located at 83 Calle Mayor, close to the Segovia Viaduct. This tower was built a little bit away from the main wall, but it was connected to it by another smaller wall. Its main job was to act as a watch tower, helping to guard the city.
What Was the Tower of Narigües?
The Tower of Narigües was one of many towers that stood along the ancient Muslim Walls of Madrid. These towers were usually placed about 20 meters (about 65 feet) apart. The Tower of Narigües stood strong until the 19th century.
How Did People Describe It?
An author named Mesonero Romanos wrote about the tower in the 18th century. He said it was near the Malpica Palace, which was where the Marquis of Malpica lived in Madrid. The tower was also close to a place called Pozacho, known for its water sources.
