The Echium simplex, also known as the tower of jewels, is a tall plant. It grows up to 3 meters (about 10 feet) high. This plant is a biennial, meaning it lives for two years.
Where it Lives
The tower of jewels plant needs lots of sunshine to grow well. It does not like cold weather or frost. You can find this plant mainly on the island of Tenerife. This island is part of the Canary Islands. It grows especially in an area called Macizo de Anaga. This is its natural home.
What it Looks Like
This plant has a special way of growing. In its first year, it forms a flat, leafy circle close to the ground. This is called a rosette. In its second year, something amazing happens! A tall, straight stem shoots up from the center. This stem can reach between 1 and 3 meters (3 to 10 feet) tall. This tall stem is covered in many white flowers.
When it Blooms
The tower of jewels usually blooms from February to April in Tenerife. Its white flowers are very pretty. Many people like to grow this plant in their gardens. It grows well in places with warm weather.
