Tracy Harris Patterson, born on December 26, 1964, is an American former professional boxer. He became a world champion in two different weight classes. Tracy was born in Grady, Alabama. He is the adopted son of Floyd Patterson, a famous former world heavyweight boxing champion. Tracy started his career strong, just like his dad. He won the WBC super bantamweight title in 1992. He held this title for two years. In 1995, he won another big title: the IBF super featherweight title. Patterson stopped boxing in 2001. He had a great record of 63 wins, 8 losses, and 2 draws.
Early Boxing Days: Amateur Career
Before becoming a professional, Tracy Patterson was a successful amateur boxer. He won two New York Golden Gloves Championships. The Golden Gloves are a well-known amateur boxing competition in the United States. Tracy won the 119-pound championship in 1984. The next year, in 1985, he won the 125-pound championship. He trained at the Huguenot Boys Club in New Paltz, New York. His adoptive father, Floyd Patterson, who was also a two-time Golden Gloves winner, trained him.
Becoming a Champion: Professional Career
Tracy Patterson started his professional boxing career in 1985. In 1992, he won his first major title. He became the WBC super bantamweight champion. He won this title by defeating Thierry Jacob. Tracy and his father, Floyd, made history. They were the first father and son duo to both win world boxing titles. Tracy defended his WBC title four times. He lost the belt to Hector Acero Sánchez in 1994.
But Tracy didn't give up! In 1995, he won another world title. He became the IBF super featherweight champion. He earned this title by beating Eddie Hopson. Later that year, he lost this title to Arturo Gatti. Tracy had a rematch with Gatti in 1997 but lost again. He retired from boxing in 2001. His final professional record was 63 wins, 8 losses, and 2 draws.
