Tracy Reese, born on February 12, 1964, is an American fashion designer. She creates stylish clothes for women. She also designs accessories and home items like bedsheets. Tracy is part of the Council of Fashion Designers of America. She joined this important group in 2007.
Growing Up and Learning Fashion
Tracy Reese grew up in Detroit, Michigan. She went to Cass Technical High School. As a child, she loved making clothes. She often sewed alongside her mother. They each had their own sewing machine.
In 1982, Tracy moved to New York City. She wanted to study fashion design. She attended the Parsons School of Design. She finished her degree quickly in 1984. After school, Tracy worked for different fashion companies. She even became the head of women's designs for Perry Ellis. Later, she started her own fashion brand.
The Tracy Reese Fashion Brand
Tracy Reese launched her own fashion brand in New York City in 1998. Her main brand, Tracy Reese, makes clothes for everyday wear and resort vacations. She also created other lines like Plenty (in 2000) and Frock! (in 2006). These lines offered more affordable clothing. The Plenty line also focused on home items. In 2009, she launched Tracy Reese Black Label.
Tracy Reese's designs are known for being feminine and having a classic, old-fashioned feel. She uses bright colors and interesting patterns in her fabrics. Her clothes often have fun, artistic touches.
You can find Tracy Reese's clothing and home items in big stores. Some of these stores include Bloomingdale's, Bergdorf Goodman, and Nordstrom. In 2006, Tracy Reese opened her own main store in New York City. She was happy that people loved her colorful and flattering designs. In 2011, a second Tracy Reese store opened in Tokyo, Japan.
Many famous people wear Tracy Reese's designs. One of her most famous clients is former First Lady Michelle Obama. Michelle Obama wore Tracy Reese dresses on several important occasions. This included a trip to Hawaii and a ceremony for Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech. She also wore a special Tracy Reese dress for a big speech in 2012.
