Tradeston (also known as Tredstoun in Scots) is a small area in the Scottish city of Glasgow. It sits right next to the city centre on the south side of the River Clyde. It's a place that has changed a lot over the years, from an industrial area to a modern business hub.

Exploring Tradeston's Location

Tradeston is easy to find on a map of Glasgow. To the north, it's bordered by the River Clyde, which is a famous river in Scotland. To the south, you'll find the railway line that goes from Glasgow to Paisley. On its east side are Eglinton Street and Bridge Street, and to the west is West Street.

A big road called the M74 Extension also runs through this area. Along the river, new apartment buildings have been built. There's also a special bridge called the Tradeston Bridge, which opened on 14 May 2009. This bridge connects Tradeston and Kingston with another area called Broomielaw.

Getting Around Tradeston

Tradeston is well-connected by public transport. You can use Glasgow's underground train system, called the Glasgow Subway. There are two subway stations in Tradeston: West Street and Bridge Street.

The West Street station might become a very important transport hub in the future. There are plans to connect it with a new main railway line as part of the Crossrail Glasgow project. This would make it even easier for people to travel to and from Tradeston.

In 1994, a sad event happened near West Street subway station. A double-decker bus, carrying a group of Girl Guides, crashed into a low railway bridge. Five people lost their lives in this tragedy. Another similar incident happened in 2009 at a different low bridge nearby, but thankfully, the bus was empty that time.

Famous People from Tradeston

Tradeston is known for being the birthplace of some interesting people. For example, the singer Simon Bell was born here in 1949.

Tradeston's Changing Economy

For a long time, Tradeston had many industrial buildings. However, many of these old buildings were taken down when the M74 Extension road was built, which opened in June 2011.

A big change for Tradeston happened in 2021. Barclays Bank opened a large new office building right on the waterfront of the River Clyde. This new headquarters is expected to create thousands of new jobs. It's also helping to bring new life and development to the entire Tradeston area. The project involved replacing old industrial buildings with modern offices and fixing up two historic buildings that were previously empty.
