Trapped! was a super exciting adventure game show for kids, shown on the BBC from 2007 to 2010. It had a cool Halloween theme and was all about escaping a spooky tower!
Contents
The Spooky Tower Adventure
The show takes place in a dark, six-floor fairy tale tower. This tower sits on a small island in the middle of the sea. Each episode starts with "The Caretaker" (Simon Greenall). He was once a world traveler. Now, he's stuck in the tower by a mysterious invisible person called "The Voice."
The Caretaker wants to be free. To earn his freedom, he must trap kids, who are called "Unfortunates" on the show. Six Unfortunates are brought to the tower by "Wiley Sneak" (Olly Pike). Wiley uses a small rowing boat, which the Caretaker calls a "Bobbing Craft."
The kids start at the very top of the tower. They have to make their way down, floor by floor. On each floor, one child gets left behind and is "Trapped" forever. The last child to reach the bottom wins! They get "the key of freedom" to escape the tower. Then, they can go home on the Bobbing Craft.
The Caretaker watches everything from the attic. He uses his "Watch Tank," a special globe-like device. It shows him a 360-degree view of the whole tower. He also gives instructions and tells the story.
How the Game Works (2007–2009)
Six "Unfortunates" begin at the top of the tower. They complete one challenge on each floor. Each child wears a "Whisper Clip." This is a listening device. Before every challenge, one Unfortunate is secretly chosen as the Saboteur.
The Saboteur's job is to mess up the challenge. They must do this without the other players finding out. "The Voice" helps the Saboteur with hints. Wiley Sneak shows how each challenge is done. The Caretaker gives instructions in a voiceover.
After each challenge, if the team wins, everyone except the Saboteur moves down a floor. The Saboteur is then "Trapped" on that floor. They stay there for the rest of the show.
If the team fails the challenge, things change. All the kids vote for who they think was the Saboteur. The child with the most votes gets "Trapped" on that floor instead. If there's a tie, they "Draw Straws." The one who picks the shortest straw is trapped.
This happens on every floor until only two Unfortunates are left. The final round is called "The Fight For Freedom." It's a timed quiz based on what happened in the tower. The child with the higher score wins the game. They get the Key Of Freedom and leave the tower!
Trapped!: Ever After (2010)
In 2010, the show changed a bit. It got new themes, games, and ways for the kids to interact. The Caretaker got a brand new attic. They also showed recaps of kids who were already trapped. Even the look of "The Voice" was updated.
The final round also changed. It became a "best-of-seven" quiz. If you answered a question correctly, you took a step towards the Key of Freedom. If you got it wrong, your opponent took a step instead!

Online Video Game
In 2009, an online game for Trapped! was released. You could play it with other people! The game had some of the challenges from the TV show. They were changed a little to work online.
Players picked an Unfortunate character to play as. Then, they moved through the game. Sometimes, you were secretly chosen to be the "saboteur." Other times, you just saw a clock and a blank screen. The Voice would give hints to the saboteur on how to ruin the challenge.
If the team passed the challenge, they voted. The saboteur was then trapped. If they failed, the person with the most votes was trapped on the next floor. If there was a tie, two spotlights flashed. The player under the last spotlight was trapped forever. The characters in the game looked like cartoons. They were a fun parody of the show's opening. As of 2021, you can no longer play this game on the CBBC website.
