Trash Aesthetics facts for kids
Trash Aesthetics was a cool British independent record label that started in 2004. It was founded by Rob Fawkes and Claire Hewitson. This label was based in South London. It was special because it focused on releasing limited numbers of songs. These songs were by local bands and also by international artists. Their music was often hard to find in the UK.
Adam Killip started helping Rob and Claire with the label in 2007. He then took over running Trash Aesthetics in 2010. The label was active for about ten years, until 2014.
The very first song released by Trash Aesthetics was called "She's Hearing Voices." It was by the band Bloc Party. Only 480 copies of this song were made on a clear vinyl record. Music fans and critics really liked it. A famous DJ from BBC Radio 1, Steve Lamacq, even called the song "genius."
Later that same year, in 2004, Trash Aesthetics released another popular song. This one was called "22 Grand Job" by The Rakes. People in the music world also loved this song a lot.
In 2005, the label continued to release more limited-edition songs. They put out music by Tilly and the Wall. This was an indie band from Omaha, Nebraska that even featured tap dancing! They also released music by The Tailors, a country and power-pop band from Brixton. That year, a longer record (called an EP) was released by Bedtime for Toys. This was a three-person band from Los Angeles.
Trash Aesthetics also released the first album by The Tailors in 2007. It was called Wakey Wakey and was very successful. They also put out a very limited song by Projections. This was a side project from the band Blood Red Shoes. Another artist, Luke Abbott, also had a song released by the label.
In 2009, two more songs came out. These were by the bands Mi Mye and Richmond Fontaine. The label continued to release music until 2014, helping many different artists share their songs.
What is a Record Label?
A record label is a company that helps musicians make and sell their music. They often help with recording songs. They also help with making CDs or vinyl records. Record labels also promote the music. This means they help people find out about the songs. They make sure the music gets played on the radio or online. Trash Aesthetics was a small, independent label. This means it was not owned by a big company.
