Travis Rice (born October 9, 1982) is a professional snowboarder from America. He is known as one of the most important snowboarders of the last 20 years. Many people think he is one of the greatest snowboarders of all time.
Travis has been in more than twenty snowboarding films. He became famous for a huge jump he did at a contest. He launched a backside rodeo over a 117-foot gap! Red Bull called him the best snowboarder in the world in 2013.
Growing Up
Travis Rice was born in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He grew up near the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. He still lives in that area today.
His father, Paul Rice, was part of the Jackson Hole Ski Patrol. Travis first learned to ski because of his dad. At first, he didn't understand why people liked snowboarding so much. But soon, he tried it and joined the local team. Travis has a sister named Ashley and his mother is Becky Rice.
Snowboarding Career
In 2001, Travis was only 18 years old and didn't have a sponsor. He drove to Mammoth Mountain in California for a contest called "Superpark." This is where the snowboarding world first noticed him. He did an amazing backside rodeo jump over a 117-foot gap. A film producer saw him and asked him to be in a movie.
Movies and Awards
Travis has made many incredible video parts for snowboarding movies. He has done amazing tricks, like a switch 540 over Chad's Gap in Utah. This was a huge 120-foot jump in the backcountry.
He has won many big contests, including several US Opens and an X-Games gold medal. At the Icer Air contest, he was the first to land a double rodeo 1080 trick.
In 2008, Travis helped make and star in the movie That's It That's All. This film showed many other famous snowboarders. His part in the movie included the first-ever double cork 1260 trick. This helped him win many awards, like "Rider of the Year."
In 2011, Travis released The Art of Flight. This movie was made with the same team as That's It, That's All. It was very successful and helped Travis win "Rider of the Year" awards again in 2012.
In 2012, Travis worked with Red Bull to create a new competition. It was called "Natural Selection" and took place in the backcountry of British Columbia, Canada. Top snowboarders competed on natural terrain. Travis Rice himself won the first event!
Travis is also a character you can play in the SSX video game. He was the first real-life snowboarder to be in that game series. Later, he released more movies: The Fourth Phase in 2016 and Dark Matter in 2019.
