Trayaurus and the Enchanted Crystal is the first graphic novel by popular YouTuber Daniel Middleton, also known as DanTDM. This exciting story takes place in the famous sandbox video game Minecraft. It features many characters that fans recognize from DanTDM's fun YouTube videos. The book was a huge hit! It became a bestseller for three weeks around the world. It even reached the number one spot on The New York Times Best Seller list for hardcover graphic novels in the US.

Creating the Book

DanTDM had thought about writing a book for a long time. In an interview with The Guardian, he shared that he wasn't a big reader himself. However, he wanted to create a book that *he* would enjoy reading. He felt it was important to give his popular YouTube characters their own special story in a book.

Publishing companies HarperCollins (in the US) and Trapeze (in the UK) won the rights to publish the book. News about DanTDM writing a book was first shared in May 2016.

In October 2016, DanTDM promoted his book at the Cheltenham Literature Festival. He was the first author that year to sell out all his tickets for the event!

What is the Story About?

Trayaurus and the Enchanted Crystal tells the story of DanTDM and his scientist friend, Trayaurus. One day, they discover a powerful crystal that crashed into The Overworld. It shattered into five pieces. They quickly realize how powerful this crystal is!

DanTDM and Trayaurus begin a quest to find the other crystal pieces. But their enemy, Denton (who you might know from DanTDM's old Minecraft videos), tries to stop them. Denton wants all the crystal's power for himself. DanTDM and Trayaurus know they must find the remaining pieces first. This is the only way to stop Denton from becoming even more dangerous.

Book Success and Sales

The book was very popular in both the United Kingdom and the United States. In the UK, Trayaurus and the Enchanted Crystal became a number one bestseller for three weeks.

In the US, the book reached number 23 on USA Today's Best-Selling Books list. It also hit number one on The New York Times Best Seller list for hardcover graphic novels. It stayed at the top for eleven weeks!
