Treasure Island is a TV show from 1977. It's based on the super famous book of the same name by Robert Louis Stevenson, which was written in 1883. The show was filmed in cool places like Plymouth and Dartmouth in England, and also on the island of Corsica. Some parts were even filmed at the BBC Television Centre in London.

The Story of Treasure Island

What's the Adventure About?

The story begins when a young boy named Jim Hawkins (Ashley Knight) finds a secret treasure map. This map leads to a hidden treasure, and Jim decides to go on an exciting journey to find it!

But there's a problem. A group of pirates led by the tricky Long John Silver (Alfred Burke) also want the treasure. They plan to take it for themselves by starting a mutiny, which means they want to take over the ship.

This TV show has four episodes and was written by John Lucarotti. It follows the original book very closely. It also adds a bit more to the story, like showing more about Daniel Hawkins and how Squire Trelawney was a bit too trusting of certain people.

How the Journey Begins

In the first episode, a character named Billy Bones tries to get Jim's father to plan a treasure trip for two people. However, a shipping agent named Ezra Blandly figures out their plan. He tells Long John Silver, who then tricks and gets information from Mr. Arrow.

Billy Bones' plans don't work out. Jim's father gets very sick from being in the rain, which sadly leads to his death. This sets the stage for Jim's big adventure to find the treasure!

Behind the Scenes

Making the Show

John Lucarotti's additions to the story help explain things better. The way the pirates talk and act feels very real, so the new parts fit right in.

The director, Michael E. Briant, made sure all the characters were very clear on screen. He picked many great TV actors from the 1970s. Alfred Burke, who plays Long John Silver, is amazing! He makes Silver seem smart, dangerous, and very believable. His acting is often compared to Robert Newton's famous portrayal of the character.
