Treves (also known as Sivert) was once a small community in Kern County, California. It is no longer an active settlement today.

What Was Treves?

Treves was a place that appeared on maps many years ago. It was located along the Southern Pacific Railroad line. This railroad was very important for travel and moving goods across the country.

Where Was Treves Located?

Treves was situated about 5 miles (8 kilometers) east-southeast of a town called Edison. It was in Kern County, California. The elevation of Treves was 866 feet (264 meters) above sea level. This means it was quite a bit higher than the ocean. Treves was still shown on maps as late as 1914.

Why Do Settlements Disappear?

Many small settlements like Treves no longer exist today. There are several reasons why a community might disappear. Sometimes, the main reason people lived there, like a mine or a railroad stop, might close down. If there are no jobs or reasons to stay, people move away. Over time, buildings might fall apart, and the land returns to nature. This is how a "former settlement" comes to be.
