Trevor Letowski was born on April 5, 1977. He is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He played as a winger, which means he played on the sides of the ice. Trevor is now an assistant coach for the Montreal Canadiens in the National Hockey League (NHL). He was chosen by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. He also played for other NHL teams like the Vancouver Canucks and Carolina Hurricanes. After he stopped playing, he coached for teams in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).

Trevor's Hockey Journey

Trevor Letowski started his hockey career playing for the Sarnia Sting. This team is part of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), which is a league for young players. In 1996, the Phoenix Coyotes picked him in the NHL Entry Draft. This draft is where professional teams choose young players to join their clubs. Trevor was the 174th player chosen that year.

Junior Hockey Success

The Sarnia Sting named Trevor their Rookie of the Year for the 1994–95 season. This means he was the best new player on the team. He also won a gold medal with Team Canada. This happened at the 1997 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in Switzerland. A special banner with his number 17 hangs in the arena where the Sarnia Sting play. It honors his time with the Canadian national team.

Playing in the NHL

After playing three seasons with the Sarnia Sting, Trevor moved to the Springfield Falcons. This team was a minor league team connected to the Phoenix Coyotes. He played his first NHL game in the 1998–99 season. He then became a regular player for the Coyotes for two full seasons.

In 2001, Trevor was traded to the Vancouver Canucks. A trade means players move from one team to another. He later signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2003. During the 2004–05 season, there was a lockout in the NHL. This meant no games were played. So, Trevor went to Switzerland to play for HC Fribourg-Gottéron.

After the lockout, he returned to the Blue Jackets. In 2006, he joined the Carolina Hurricanes. During a game in 2006, Trevor was hit by an opposing player. He was hurt and had to leave the ice. After two seasons with the Hurricanes, Trevor joined Barys Astana in 2008. This team plays in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He played there for two years. Trevor announced he was retiring from playing hockey in 2010.

Coaching Career

After he stopped playing, Trevor Letowski returned to the Sarnia Sting. This time, he became an assistant coach in 2010. In 2011, he became the interim head coach for a short time. He then went back to being an assistant coach. In 2013, he was promoted to head coach of the Sting.

Coaching Other Teams

In 2015, Trevor became an assistant coach for the Windsor Spitfires. After two seasons, he was promoted again. He became the head coach of the Spitfires in 2017. In 2021, Trevor Letowski was hired by the Montreal Canadiens. He is now an assistant coach for this famous NHL team.
