Trey Lorenz's Music Journey

Starting His Career

Trey Lorenz met Mariah Carey in 1990. At that time, he was a student at Fairleigh Dickinson University. He was singing in an R&B group called Squeak & the Deep. Trey started his music career by singing backup for Mariah Carey. He joined her first tour in 1990. The next year, he sang background vocals on her album Emotions.

In 1992, Trey sang with Mariah Carey again. This was for her TV show appearance on MTV Unplugged. They performed "I'll Be There" as a duet. This live performance was released as a single. It quickly became a number-one hit in the United States. They sang this song once more at Michael Jackson's memorial service in 2009.

Solo Music and Collaborations

After his success, Trey Lorenz got a record deal. He released his first album, which was self-titled. His song "Someone to Hold" became a hit. Mariah Carey helped write and produce this song. She also sang backup vocals on it. "Someone to Hold" reached number 19 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. However, his album did not sell as well. Because of this, his record label, Epic Records, ended his contract.
