Tri-Fest facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Tri-Fest is a super fun yearly festival that happens every April in Henderson, Kentucky. It started way back in 1988 and has grown into one of the biggest festivals in all of Kentucky! Tri-Fest helps raise over $100,000 each year for groups that help people in western Kentucky and southern Indiana. The Henderson Breakfast Lions Club created Tri-Fest and still organizes it today. Their main goal is to collect money for local charities, which are groups that do good things for the community.

How Tri-Fest Helps Others

Tri-Fest helps local charities in two main ways:

  • The Breakfast Lions Club sells tickets to the festival and charges a fee for businesses that set up food and game booths. A small part of this money helps organize next year's Tri-Fest. But most of it goes straight to local charities!
  • Many local non-profit groups, like schools, churches, and hospitals, can set up their own food and educational booths at the festival. These groups get to keep all the money they earn from their booths! This helps them support their own important work in the community. You can find all sorts of yummy foods like pork chop sandwiches, lemonade, apple dumplings, corn dogs, hamburgers, and even deep fried Twinkies!

What Happens at Tri-Fest

Tri-Fest usually takes place over one weekend in downtown Henderson. Main Street and Central Park become a big, exciting area just for people to walk around and enjoy.

Fun Activities and Entertainment

You can often find live music and shows on the stage in Central Park. Over the years, Tri-Fest has grown to include even more events in the weeks leading up to the main weekend. These can include:

  • Sports tournaments
  • A bike ride (12K/36K)
  • A beauty pageant
  • An art contest

The festival ends with amazing fireworks lighting up the sky over downtown Henderson and the beautiful Ohio River.

Recent Years

Tri-Fest took a break in 2020 and 2021. But it came back strong in 2022, running from April 22nd to 24th, ready to bring fun and help to the community once again!
