Triangle K is a group that checks if food follows Jewish dietary laws, called kosher rules. It is led by Rabbi Aryeh R. Ralbag. His father, Rabbi Yehosef Ralbag, started the organization. The special symbol, or hechsher, for Triangle K is a letter 'K' inside a triangle.
What Triangle K Does
Triangle K checks many well-known food brands to make sure their products are kosher. Some of these brands include Del Monte, Hebrew National, Ocean Spray, Sunsweet, Sunny Delight, SunChips, and Wonder Bread.
For a while, Minute Maid products were certified by Triangle K. But since 2013, another group called the Orthodox Union has been checking Minute Maid products instead.
Understanding Glatt Kosher
Some Jewish people, especially those who follow very strict rules, only eat food that is "glatt kosher." This means the food meets an even higher standard of kosher preparation, especially for meat.
Triangle K continues to certify foods as kosher that are not always "glatt kosher." Because of this, many Orthodox Jews choose not to eat food that has the Triangle K symbol.
K Meshulash
Sometimes, you might hear the name K Meshulash used along with Triangle K. The word Meshulash comes from Hebrew. It means "triangle," "triple," or "tripled."
