First Peoples of Trida
The land where Trida is located was originally part of the traditional country of the Wangaibon people. They are the Aboriginal people who lived in this area for thousands of years before European settlement.
Life in Trida Village
In the past, Trida was a small village with a few important buildings. Records show that a hotel, called the Trida Hotel, was opened there in 1889 by a person named Alexander Pearce. A hotel licence allows a business to operate a hotel.
There was also once a small, one-room school in Trida. You could see its remains until recently. A post office, which also had a telephone switchboard, used to operate right next to the railway platform. These buildings show that Trida was once a small, active community.
Trida's Railway History
The railway played a big part in Trida's history. From February 10, 1919, until August 19, 1925, Trida was the very end, or terminus, of the Broken Hill railway line. This meant trains from Sydney would stop here.
After 1925, the railway line was finished all the way from Sydney to Broken Hill. The train station platform at Trida opened on February 10, 1919, but it is now closed. We don't know exactly when it closed.
Even though the station is closed, Trida is still an important spot for trains. It's a "train crossing location," which means two trains can meet and pass each other on a special 1,800-meter-long section of double railway track. This spot is about 750 kilometers by rail from Sydney. The Trida crossing loop is located between the train crossing spots of Matakana and Ivanhoe.
Roads Around Trida
Two roads pass through Trida. Both are narrow, unsealed gravel roads. This means they are not paved and can only be used when the weather is dry.
One road goes from Roto to Ivanhoe. It runs next to the railway line, going from east to west. The other road connects Trida to Hillston. This road crosses the Roto to Ivanhoe Road and the railway line, then travels south towards Hillston.
Trida's Climate
The weather in Trida is classified by the Bureau of Meteorology as a "Hot Dry Zone" with cooler winters. This means that during the summer months, it can get very hot. However, in winter, the nights can become very cold.
