Trifón Gómez (1889–1955) was an important Spanish politician. He was a socialist, meaning he believed in fairness and equality for everyone. He served in the Spanish Parliament and was a key leader of the Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE).

Trifón Gómez: Early Life and Learning

Trifón Gómez was born in a town called Zaratán, near Valladolid, Spain. His birthday was on July 3, 1889.

School Days and First Job

He went to a special school in Valladolid called Escuela de Huérfanos Ferroviarios. This school was for children whose parents worked on the railways. When he was 15, Trifón started working. He became an apprentice turner in railway workshops in Pisuerga. This meant he was learning how to shape metal parts for trains.

Becoming a Mechanical Expert

While working, he also studied hard at the School of Arts and Crafts. He learned a lot about machines and graduated as a mechanical expert. This showed he was very smart and dedicated to learning.

Trifón Gómez: His Political Journey

Trifón Gómez joined two important groups in 1909. He became a member of the General Union of Workers (UGT). This was a big union that helped workers. He also joined the Socialist Association in Valladolid.

Working for Railway Workers

From 1915, he worked as the secretary for the Northern Railway Union. This union helped railway workers. In August 1917, the union organized a big strike. Because of this, Trifón had to leave Spain. He went to Paris, France, and stayed there until September 1918.

Returning to Spain and New Roles

When he came back to Spain, he moved to Madrid. He joined the Madrid Socialist Association. He also became part of the Institute of Social Reforms. During the time when Miguel Primo de Rivera was in charge of Spain, Trifón was a socialist representative. He helped make decisions in special committees.

Becoming a Member of Parliament

Trifón Gómez became a member of the PSOE, the Socialist Workers' Party. He was part of a group within the party. In April 1931, he was elected as a councilor for the Madrid City Council. He also became a deputy mayor for a part of the city called La Inclusa. In the general elections of 1931 and 1933, people voted for him to be a deputy representing Madrid. This meant he was a member of the Spanish Parliament.

Helping Madrid During the Civil War

When the civil war started, Trifón was in charge of getting supplies for Madrid. He made sure the city had enough food and other important things. In 1937, he became the general director of this department.

Life in Exile and Passing Away

When the civil war ended, Trifón Gómez had to leave Spain again. He went to France. Many other members of the UGT union also left Spain.

Leading the Union in Exile

In France, Trifón helped to organize the thousands of UGT members who were also in exile. In November 1944, the first congress of the UGT of Spain in exile was held. Trifón Gómez was chosen as the president of the UGT. He held this important position until 1955.

President of the Socialist Party

Trifón Gómez was also elected as the president of the PSOE. This happened at a special meeting held between March 31 and April 1, 1951. He took over from another important leader named Indalecio Prieto.

His Final Days

Trifón Gómez passed away in Mexico City on May 8, 1955.
