Trinity Church is a very old and important church in Brooklyn, Connecticut. It was finished in 1771 and hasn't changed much since then. This makes it the oldest Episcopal church building in Connecticut.
Today, the church community mostly meets in a newer building. But they still use this old church for special events and important gatherings. Because it's so old and special, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in October 1970. This list helps protect important historical places.

The History and Look of Trinity Church
Trinity Church is located about 3 miles (4.8 km) east of the center of Brooklyn. You can find it on the east side of Church Street, near Brown Road.
What the Church Looks Like
It's a wooden building with two and a half stories. It has a sloped roof and its outside walls are covered with overlapping wooden boards called clapboards. Most of these wooden boards are original. They are held on by nails made by hand a long time ago.
The windows on the first floor have a slightly curved top. The windows on the second floor are taller and have a round top. The front of the church has three sections. It features a round-arched doorway. This doorway is framed by flat, column-like decorations called pilasters. Above the doorway is a triangular shape, known as a pediment.
Inside the church, you can still see the original box pews. These are like small, enclosed seating areas. Their doors are attached with hinges made of wrought iron. The church also has its first pulpit and reading desk.
How the Church Was Built
A lot of the money and effort to build this church came from a man named Godfrey Malbone. He was a strong supporter of the Anglican church. He wanted to build Trinity Church because another group was trying to build a different kind of church nearby.
Under Mr. Malbone's guidance, Trinity Church was finished in April 1771. It was actually completed before the other church. This makes it the oldest Anglican church building still standing in Connecticut.
The church's design was inspired by buildings created by Peter Harrison. Some of the work to build the church was done by enslaved people provided by Mr. Malbone.
