The Trioceros feae, also known as the Bioko montane chameleon or Fea's chameleon, is a special type of lizard. It belongs to the family of Chamaeleonidae, which are known for their amazing ability to change color. This chameleon is found only in one place in the world: the island of Bioko. When an animal or plant is found only in one specific area, it is called endemic.
Meet the Fea's Chameleon
The name feae was given to this chameleon to honor Leonardo Fea. He was an Italian explorer and naturalist who studied nature and animals. He helped discover many new species.
Where Fea's Chameleons Live
The T. feae chameleon loves to live in forests. You can find them high up in the mountains, usually between 1,300 and 1,600 meters (about 4,265 to 5,250 feet) above sea level. This kind of high-up, forested area is their perfect habitat.
Life Cycle and Reproduction
Like many other lizards, the T. feae chameleon is oviparous. This means that the female chameleon lays eggs. After the eggs are laid, the baby chameleons hatch from them.
