The Trois-Rivières station was once a busy train station in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, Canada. It is now considered an important historical building. In 1990, it was officially recognized as a federal heritage site, meaning it's protected because of its history.
History of the Station
The station building you see today was built in 1924. It replaced an older station that had been there since 1872. This station was a key stop for trains traveling between Quebec City and Montreal. The trains followed a route along the North Shore of the St. Lawrence River.
In December 1985, a company called Via Rail Canada took over the station. Two years later, in 1987, it became an "intermodal" station. This means it served both trains and intercity buses, making it a central travel hub.
However, in 1990, train service to Trois-Rivières stopped due to changes made by Via Rail. Bus service also ended at the station in 1998. Today, the City of Trois-Rivières owns the building. It is no longer used for transportation but for other city purposes.
