About the Trout River
The Trout River is famous for its amazing trout fishing. Many people enjoy trying to catch fish here.
Where Does It Flow?
The river starts in a place called Frankville Township. This is in Winneshiek County. It begins south of Iowa Highway 9.
From there, the Trout River flows north. It joins the Upper Iowa River in Glenwood Township. This spot is east of a town called Decorah.
A smaller stream, Trout Creek, joins the river from the west. It's important not to mix up this Trout Creek with another one! There's a different Trout Creek (and Trout Run) that also flows into the Upper Iowa River. That one is about 5 miles (8 km) to the west, near Decorah.
Fishing Fun!
People love the Trout River because it's great for fishing. You can find lots of trout here!
Most of the land around the river is owned by private people. This means it can be tricky to get to the river. But don't worry, there are special spots where everyone can go and enjoy the river.
