Tuanku Abbas facts for kids

Tuanku Abbas was a pirate from the Malay region. He was active in the 1840s. He was also the brother of a local ruler, called a rajah, in Aceh. Aceh is a part of Indonesia.

Tuanku Abbas was known for organizing and leading pirate attacks. He would plan these raids and lead his crew.

A Notorious Pirate Raid

One of his most famous attacks happened in 1843. During this raid, Tuanku Abbas and his crew captured a ship. This ship had an Indian crew. They took control of the ship and stole everything valuable from it. This act of stealing from a ship is called "plundering."

The British Response

After the attack, the Indian crew managed to escape. They went to the British authorities for help. The British were a powerful force in the region at that time.

The next year, in response to the pirate attack, the British took action. They attacked Tuanku Abbas's village. The British forces destroyed the village as a punishment for the piracy.
