Tubuai is a beautiful island located in the vast Pacific Ocean. It is part of a group of islands known as the Austral Islands, which are a territory of French Polynesia. Tubuai lies about 640 kilometers (about 400 miles) south of the famous island of Tahiti. The island is home to just over 2,000 people and covers an area of about 45 square kilometers (around 17 square miles).

Discovering Tubuai

The first European to see Tubuai was the famous explorer James Cook in 1777. However, he did not land on the island at that time. Later, in 1789, Fletcher Christian and the mutineers from the HMS Bounty landed on Tubuai. They tried to build a settlement called Fort George. But due to difficulties with the local people, they soon decided to leave the island.
