Tubutama is a town in the Mexican state of Sonora. It is the center of the Tubutama Municipality. The total area of the municipality is about 1,351.60 square kilometers (521.85 square miles). In 2005, about 1,798 people lived there.

How Tubutama Started
A Jesuit priest named Eusebio Kino started Mission San Pedro y San Pablo del Tubutama in 1691. This mission was a religious center for a large area called the Pimería Alta. This region included parts of what is now Sonora and Arizona.
Important Headquarters
For a long time, Tubutama was the main place for religious leaders to work. This was during the time when Spain ruled Mexico. Both the Jesuit and Franciscan priests used Tubutama as their headquarters. They helped to spread Christianity and build communities in the area.
