About the Brown-Headed Thrush
Where Does This Bird Live?
This bird likes to have its babies (breed) in places like Sakhalin, the Kuril Islands, and Japan. When winter comes, it flies south to warmer spots. These include the Ryukyu Islands, Taiwan, Hainan, and the northern Philippines. Its natural home is in temperate forests.
What Does It Look Like?
The brown-headed thrush is about 23 to 24 centimeters (9 to 9.5 inches) long. It usually weighs around 64 to 90 grams (2.2 to 3.2 ounces). Both male and female birds look very similar. Their heads are black. They have bright orange feathers from their chest down to the sides of their belly. The male bird has a slaty-brown face and throat. This color fades into brown on the back of its head and neck. Its upper body is a brownish-red color.
Where Does It Like to Live?
These birds really like to live in bright forests. They especially prefer forests with needle-leaved trees, like larches. You can find them in these forests from flat areas all the way up into the mountains.
