Turkey Creek (Little Sac River tributary) facts for kids
Turkey Creek is a small waterway, or stream, found in the beautiful Ozarks region of southwest Missouri. It flows into a larger river called the Little Sac River.
About Turkey Creek
This stream is an important part of the local water system. It helps carry water through different counties in Missouri.
Where Turkey Creek Starts and Ends
Turkey Creek begins near a town called Walnut Grove in northwestern Greene County. At first, it's an intermittent stream, meaning it sometimes dries up during parts of the year.
From there, it flows north into southwestern Polk County. It passes by the town of Eudora. Eventually, Turkey Creek flows into the Little Sac arm of Stockton Lake.
Before Stockton Lake was filled, Turkey Creek joined the Little Sac River further northwest in Dade County. Another small stream called King Branch also flows into Turkey Creek from the south, just before it reaches Stockton Lake.
How Turkey Creek Got Its Name
Turkey Creek was given its name because many wild turkeys used to live near its banks. These birds were a common sight in the area where the stream flows.
