Turn Left, Turn Right facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Turn Left, Turn Right is a Taiwanese picture book created by the famous writer Jimmy Liao. It tells a unique story about two people who live very close but never meet.

About the Story

This book is about two main characters who live in the same old apartment building. The girl always turns left when she leaves her home, no matter where she's going. The boy, on the other hand, always turns right when he steps out. Even though they live so close, they never cross paths. The story shows how a big city can feel like a maze, where people can be very near each other but still miss out on meeting. They might even see the same things or walk the same paths without ever knowing it.

How the Book Was Made

Turn Left, Turn Right was the first long story that Jimmy Liao wrote. He wanted to explore the feelings and connections between a man and a woman. The book is known for its beautiful drawings, bright colors, and amazing details. It's considered one of his best works and a true piece of art.

Jimmy Liao shared that the idea for the book came to him when he was trying to draw but was bothered by loud noises from next door. He started thinking about how strange it would be if he lived right next to someone he didn't know, with only a thin wall separating them. This thought sparked the idea for the two characters who are neighbors but never meet because of their different habits of turning left or right.
