Facing the Storms

Living by the coast means sometimes facing strong storms. Turtle Cove has experienced some tough weather events.

  • In 2001, Tropical Storm Allison brought a lot of flooding. The community was covered in 9 to 10 feet of saltwater. This caused a lot of damage.
  • On September 13, 2008, Hurricane Ike hit the area. This was a strong Category 2 storm. Hurricane Ike caused a big storm surge, which is when ocean water rushes onto land. Turtle Cove's neighbor, Surfside Beach, was also greatly affected by this powerful hurricane.
