The Tuscaloosa Amphitheater is a cool outdoor place in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA. It's mostly used for awesome music shows and concerts. Imagine a big outdoor stage with lots of seats! This amphitheater can hold up to 7,470 people, so many fans can come and enjoy the music.
You can find the amphitheater on Jack Warner Parkway, right next to the Hugh R. Thomas Bridge. It's super close to the University of Alabama campus and just a few blocks from downtown Tuscaloosa. This makes it easy for everyone to get there. It's also the biggest outdoor theater in the West Alabama area.
Building the Amphitheater
The idea for the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater started a while ago. The building work began on July 14, 2009. This is called "breaking ground" when construction officially starts. The original plan was to open the amphitheater in August 2010.
However, the Tuscaloosa area had a lot of rain during those months. This record rainfall caused delays in the building process. Because of the weather, the opening had to be pushed back to 2011.
First Concerts and Opening Day
The famous country singer Kenny Chesney was first set to open the amphitheater with a concert on March 31, 2011. He was going to perform with Uncle Kracker. But due to some scheduling problems, Kenny Chesney's show was moved to May 25.
Instead, the very first concert at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater happened on April 1, 2011. The bands The Avett Brothers and Band of Horses were the first to play there. The very next night, on April 2, 2011, the legendary singers Patti LaBelle and The O'Jays performed. This made for a fantastic start to the new venue!
