Discovering the Tusket Islands' Past
The Tusket Islands have a long history. In 1633, a person named Jean de Laite wrote about them. He called them "Isles aux Tangneux" in his book The New World.
The Mi'kmaq people also had a name for the islands. They called them "Aglassawakade." This name means "place of the English."
There is a fun local story about the islands. Some people believe that pirate treasure is hidden on one of them!
In the early days of European settlement, people built homes on the islands. This shows that the islands were once lived on by many families.
