History of Twin Towers

Early Days and Growth

Long ago, Twin Towers was a busy place known for its many German and Jewish families. They helped create a lively business area. This made Twin Towers famous throughout Dayton. Many shops and businesses thrived here.

Twin Towers During World War II

Twin Towers played a big part in World War II. During the war, many people from Appalachia moved here. They came to work in the factories. These factories made important things for the war effort. This brought many new families to the neighborhood.

Changes with U.S. Route 35

Later, in the 1960s, a new highway called U.S. Route 35 was built. It went right through the city. Because of this, many Appalachian families had to move. Also, many shops, homes, and larger stores were forced to close down. This changed the neighborhood a lot.

A Special Church

The beautiful Romanesque style St. Mary's Catholic Church was built in 1906. This church is actually where the "Twin Towers" name comes from! In 1983, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it is a very important historical building.
