Ty Williams, born on November 27, 1980, is a former Australian rugby league player. He played professionally in the 2000s and 2010s. Ty was well-known for playing with the North Queensland Cowboys in the National Rugby League (NRL).

Playing for the North Queensland Cowboys

Before joining the Cowboys, Ty was a fantastic player for the Innisfail Leprechauns. He once scored an amazing 42 tries in just one season! After signing with the North Queensland Cowboys, Ty really improved his game. By the end of 2005, he was one of the best wingers in the NRL.

Ty played for the Cowboys in the 2005 NRL grand final. This big game was against the Wests Tigers, but unfortunately, the Cowboys lost.

Overcoming Injuries

In 2006, Ty faced a big challenge when he tore his Achilles tendon. This injury kept him from playing in the NRL for a long time. He didn't return to the field until Round 7 of 2007.

After coming back from his injury, Ty showed how versatile he was. He could play in many different positions. He played on the wing, in the centres, at fullback, and even as a five-eighth. Even with more small injuries, he kept finding his form. On July 28, 2010, Ty told the Cowboys that he would retire at the end of that season.

Playing and Coaching for Northern Pride

Between 2008 and 2010, while still with the Cowboys, Ty also played for the Northern Pride RLFC. This team was a feeder club for the Cowboys in Cairns. He played 26 games for the Pride and scored 12 tries. He was part of the team that reached the 2010 Grand Final. However, a knee injury stopped him from playing in that final match.

Captain and Coach

After retiring from top-level rugby league in 2010, Ty signed with the Northern Pride. He became the captain of the team for the next three seasons. During this time, he played 52 games as a centre and scored 19 tries.

Ty retired from playing completely at the end of the 2013 season. But he returned to the Northern Pride in 2017, this time as a coach! He coached the team for seven seasons. In 2018, he won the QRL Coach of the Year award, which is a great achievement.
