Ty Williams, born on November 27, 1980, is a former professional rugby league player from Australia. He played for a team called the North Queensland Cowboys in the National Rugby League (NRL) competition. He was known for being a strong player in the 2000s and early 2010s.

Ty Williams: A Rugby Star

Ty Williams started his rugby journey playing for the Innisfail Leprechauns. He was an amazing player, once scoring 42 tries in a single season! A try is like a touchdown in rugby league. After joining the North Queensland Cowboys, he became one of the best wingers in the NRL by 2005.

Playing for the Cowboys

Ty Williams played a big role for the Cowboys. In 2005, he helped his team reach the 2005 NRL grand final. This is the championship game of the NRL season. Unfortunately, they lost to the Wests Tigers that year.

In 2006, Ty faced a tough challenge. He injured his Achilles tendon, which is a big tendon in your heel. This injury kept him from playing in the NRL until 2007. After returning, he sometimes struggled with smaller injuries. However, he was a very flexible player. He could play in many different positions, like on the wing, in the middle, or even as a fullback.

On July 28, 2010, Ty Williams announced that he would retire from playing at the end of that season.

Playing and Coaching for Northern Pride

Even while playing for the Cowboys, Ty Williams also played for their feeder team, the Northern Pride, from 2008 to 2010. Feeder clubs help players develop their skills. He played 26 games for the Pride and scored 12 tries. He was part of the team that reached the Grand Final in 2010, but a knee injury stopped him from playing in the final match.

Captain and Coach

After retiring from the NRL in 2010, Ty decided to join the Northern Pride full-time. He became the team captain for the next three seasons. He played 52 games for them and scored 19 tries.

Ty Williams retired from playing completely at the end of the 2013 season. But he didn't stay away from the game for long! In 2017, he returned to the Northern Pride as their coach. He coached the team for seven seasons. In 2018, he was even named the QRL Coach of the Year. This is a big award for a coach!
