Tyka Evene Nelson (born May 18, 1960 – died November 4, 2024) was an American singer. She was known for her music and for being the sister of the famous musician Prince. Tyka was the daughter of jazz musician John L. Nelson and jazz singer Mattie Della Shaw. She was Prince's only full sibling, meaning they shared both parents. She also had seven half-siblings.

Her Albums and Hit Song

Tyka Nelson released four music albums between 1988 and 2011. One of her songs, "Marc Anthony's Tune," became very popular. It reached number 33 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in July 1988. This song was produced by Larry Graham. Tyka wrote "Marc Anthony's Tune" because she had a crush on the singer Marc Anthony.

Later Life and Retirement

After her brother Prince passed away in 2016, Tyka Nelson accepted his American Music Award for Top Soundtrack. Her last public music performance was in Australia in 2018. She had planned to perform again in June 2024, but she became ill. Because of her illness, she retired from music in June 2024. At that time, she shared that she was working on writing a book about her life.

Tyka Nelson was married to Maurice Phillips. Together, they had six children.

Illness and Passing

Tyka Nelson passed away on November 4, 2024, at the age of 64. She died at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. She had been ill since June 2024.
