Tyrone Peachey (born on August 8, 1991) is an Australian former professional rugby league player. He was known for being able to play in many different positions on the field.
He played for several teams in the National Rugby League (NRL). These teams include the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks, Gold Coast Titans, Wests Tigers, and the Penrith Panthers. He even won the 2023 NRL Grand Final with the Penrith Panthers. Tyrone also represented special teams like the Indigenous All Stars and New South Wales.
Tyrone Peachey's Early Life
Tyrone Peachey was born in Wellington, New South Wales, Australia. He is an Indigenous Australian. His uncle, David Peachey, was also a famous rugby league player for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks.
Tyrone went to Cronulla High School in Sydney. He played junior rugby league for the Wellington Cowboys and the Cronulla-Caringbah Sharks.
Tyrone Peachey's Rugby League Journey
Tyrone started his journey playing junior football for the Cronulla-Caringbah Sharks. He was later signed by the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks.
He played for the Sharks' youth team (NYC) in 2010 and 2011. In 2011, he was named as the best lock player in the NYC Team of the Year. In 2012, he moved up to play for the Sharks' NSW Cup team.
Starting His NRL Career in 2013
In 2013, Tyrone Peachey made his first appearance in the NRL for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks. He played his debut game against the Canberra Raiders. Later that year, he signed a two-year contract to join the Penrith Panthers starting in 2014.
In his last game for Cronulla-Sutherland, he scored his first NRL try. He played seven matches and scored one try in his first NRL season. He was also named in the NSW Cup team of the year in 2013. He helped his NSW Cup team win the Grand Final that year, scoring a try in the game.
Moving to Penrith in 2014
In 2014, Tyrone joined the Penrith Panthers. He played in the special Auckland Nines tournament. He made his club debut for Penrith in Round 1 against the Newcastle Knights.
He scored his first two tries for the Penrith Panthers in a game against the Parramatta Eels. Unfortunately, he got a pectoral muscle injury later in the season. He played 14 matches and scored three tries for Penrith in 2014.
Playing for Representative Teams in 2015
In 2015, Tyrone was chosen to play for the Indigenous All Stars team. They won their game against the NRL All Stars.
He also played for the New South Wales City team against New South Wales Country. He played 22 matches and scored five tries for the Penrith Panthers in 2015.
Big Moments in 2016
Tyrone played for the Indigenous All Stars again in 2016. He also played for City Origin, where his team won.
In one game against the New Zealand Warriors, he scored three tries! In another game, he made a mistake by dropping the ball, which led to the Gold Coast Titans scoring and winning the game. He missed a training session later that year and had to play for the Panthers' lower league team for a week. He then returned to the main team. He played 24 matches and scored 13 tries for Penrith in 2016.
Continuing Success in 2017
In 2017, Tyrone played for the Indigenous All Stars and City Origin teams again. Both teams won their matches.
In a finals game against the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles, Tyrone scored a try that was checked by the video referee and allowed. This helped Penrith win and move forward in the finals. He played 25 matches and scored 8 tries for Penrith in 2017.
Moving to Gold Coast in 2018-2021
In 2018, Tyrone played his 100th NRL game for Penrith. He was also selected to play for New South Wales in all three games of the State of Origin series. He signed a deal to join the Gold Coast Titans starting in 2019.
He played 21 games for the Gold Coast Titans in 2019. The team had a tough year and finished last in the competition, which is known as getting the "Wooden Spoon." In 2020, he played 20 games for the Titans, and they finished ninth.
In 2021, during a finals game, Tyrone was sent off the field for a short time (called a "sin bin"). He also missed a kick that could have won the game for the Gold Coast. Their season ended with a close loss. He left the Gold Coast Titans in September 2021. In October, he signed a two-year contract with the Wests Tigers.
Time with Wests Tigers and Return to Penrith 2022-2023
Tyrone played 13 matches for the Wests Tigers in 2022. The team finished last in the competition, getting the "Wooden Spoon." In October 2022, Tyrone returned to his former club, the Penrith Panthers, in a player swap deal.
In 2023, Tyrone made his second debut for Penrith in Round 5. He scored a try in a big win against Canberra. He was part of the Penrith team that won the 2023 NRL Grand Final, earning his first premiership ring. He signed a new one-year deal with the Panthers.
Retirement and New Chapter in 2024
In February 2024, Tyrone played in the 2024 World Club Challenge final, where Penrith lost to Wigan. On June 25, 2024, Tyrone Peachey announced that he was retiring from professional rugby league.
However, in November 2024, he signed a one-year deal to play in the Queensland Cup, a different rugby league competition, with the Burleigh Bears.
