About Tzvi Freeman
Tzvi Freeman was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Before joining the Chabad movement, he explored different spiritual ideas. He became part of the Chabad movement in the mid-1970s.
Before becoming a full-time writer, Freeman taught at a school. He taught Game Design and Documentation at the DigiPen Institute of Technology. This school focuses on computer gaming in Vancouver. He also helped create an educational video game called A to Zap!. This game was made for Sunburst Communications. As of 2020, he lives in Sandy Springs, Georgia.
Working at Chabad.org
Freeman is a senior editor at Chabad.org. This website is a main way the Chabad movement shares its ideas. He is also part of the "Ask the Rabbi" team. This team answers questions from people around the world. His writing style tries to combine deep spiritual ideas, like Kabbalah, with modern concepts. He sometimes uses computer science terms to explain complex spiritual thoughts.
Jewish Mysticism and Spirituality
Tzvi Freeman creates both written works and videos about Jewish mysticism and spirituality. He often highlights the quiet, thoughtful side of Chabad teachings. There is a special part of the Chabad.org website just for his video guides. These videos teach about Jewish meditation.
He also created a cartoon series for kids called KabbalaToons. This series has over 100 episodes. Its goal is to make the deep teachings of Kabbalah easy for children to understand. This fits with the Chabad movement's aim to share Chasidic teachings widely.
Another one of Freeman's works is his book Heaven Exposed. This book was first published in parts on Chabad.org. It also blends Kabbalah with science fiction themes.
Bar and Bat Mitzvah
Tzvi Freeman believes that the timing of the bar and bat mitzvah rituals is very important. These rituals happen around the time young people reach puberty. According to Freeman, this age is also when young people start thinking more deeply about themselves. They develop "reflective consciousness." He sees this as necessary for the new responsibilities that come with the bar and bat mitzvah.
