A Look at Tõhelgi's History
Tõhelgi village is one of the oldest places where people have lived in northern Estonia. We know this because of old settlements, special stone graves, and many sacrificial stones found there.
How Tõhelgi Changed Over Time
In the 1840s, a large estate called Tõhelgi Manor was built. It took the place of a group of smaller villages. Later, the Soviet government brought big changes to Tõhelgi. The land was gathered together into large farms, a process called collectivisation.
In 1947, a collective farm named "Tõhelgi Liit" was started. Over time, this farm joined with others, eventually becoming part of the Aruküla collective farm.
Testing New Plants
In 1967, a special testing center was set up in the northern part of the village. Its job was to test different kinds of fruits and berries. This center helped farmers learn which plants grew best. It continued to operate until the early 1990s.
