Ugo Canefri (born in 1148, died October 8, 1233) was an Italian man who first joined the Crusades. Later, he became a dedicated health worker, helping sick people. He is also known as Ugo da Genova.

Early Life and the Crusades
When he was younger, Ugo joined the Third Crusade. This was a big religious war that happened a long time ago. He fought alongside other important leaders like Conrad of Montferrat.
Becoming a Health Worker
In his early twenties, Ugo decided to change his path. He joined the Knights Hospitaller, also known as the Knights of Malta. This group was known for helping sick and injured people.
Ugo stopped being a soldier and started caring for patients. He worked at a hospital called the Commenda di San Giovanni di Pré in Genoa. He dedicated more than 50 years of his life to this important work, helping many people.
A Recognized Saint
After Ugo Canefri passed away in 1233, he was soon recognized for his good deeds. He was later made a saint by the Roman Catholic Church. People especially honor him in the cities of Alessandria and Genoa, and within the Order of Malta. His special day is October 8.
