Ullastret (pronounced "oo-yas-TRET") is a small, old village in Catalonia, Spain. It is located near the Bay of Empordà, about 5 kilometers northeast of La Bisbal d'Empordà. This historic place is known for its ancient ruins and beautiful surroundings.

A Village on a Former Island
Long ago, Ullastret was likely on an island! It was surrounded by a large lake called Llac d'Ullastret. This lake covered about 3 square kilometers. A causeway, which is a raised road across water, connected the village to the mainland. However, the lake dried up completely in the 1800s.
Ancient Iberian City
Ullastret is famous for its very old Iberian archaeological site. The Iberians were an ancient people who lived in this area. You can still see many parts of their thick walls around the village. These walls show how important and well-protected the Iberian city once was.
What You Can See at the Site
The archaeological site has many interesting things to explore. You can find remains of buildings and learn about how the Iberians lived. There are also special artifacts like inscribed lead plates and terracotta masks. These items give us clues about their culture and daily life.
The Medieval Church
The village also has a very old church. It is dedicated to Saints Paul and Peter. This church has been around since the 9th century, which is over 1,100 years ago! It shows the long history of Ullastret through the medieval period.
