Un Lujo (which means "A Luxury" in Spanish) is a music album created by two famous Mexican singers: Lucero and Joan Sebastian. It was released on May 22, 2012, by Skalona Records. Joan Sebastian wrote and produced all the songs on the album.

The album features four songs sung by Joan Sebastian, four by Lucero, and three songs where they sing together. Un Lujo quickly became popular, reaching the top five on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart in the United States. It also made it into the top forty in Mexico. The first song released from the album, "Caminar Contigo," was a duet that became a top twenty hit on the Billboard Latin Songs chart. The second song, "Diséñame," sung by Joan Sebastian, also did well on the charts in both Mexico and the United States. The album was even nominated for a Billboard Mexican Music Award in 2013.

How the Album Was Made

Mexican singer Lucero and fellow singer-songwriter Joan Sebastian had known each other for a long time. They were both signed to the same record label, Musart Records, in the 1980s. Lucero had even recorded some songs written by Sebastian on her earlier albums like Fuego y Ternura (1985) and Lucerito: Ocho Quince (1988).

In 1992, Lucero included Sebastian's song "Llorar" ("Cry") on her album Lucero De México. This song became a top thirty hit on the Billboard Latin Songs chart. Later, in 2010, Lucero starred in a TV show called Soy Tu Dueña. Joan Sebastian joined her to sing the show's theme song, "Golondrinas Viajeras" ("Traveler Swallows"). This song was later added to Sebastian's album Huevos Rancheros in 2011.

Recording the Songs

While Lucero was filming another TV show called Por Ella Soy Eva in March 2012, she recorded a song called "No Me Dejes Ir" ("Don't Let Me Go"). At that time, she also shared that she was working on a new album with Joan Sebastian. She said the album would be called Lujo.

Two months later, the album's full title was announced as Un LuJo. This special title uses the first two letters of each singer's name: "Lu" from Lucero and "Jo" from Joan Sebastian. Joan Sebastian mentioned that the album shows the "love and admiration" they have for each other.

Songs on the Album

The album Un Lujo has a mix of songs. It includes four songs sung only by Lucero, four songs sung only by Joan Sebastian, and three songs where they sing together as duets.

Popular Songs (Singles)

The first song released from the album was the duet "Caminar Contigo" ("Walk with You"). This song became very popular, reaching number 18 on the Billboard Latin Songs chart and number seven on the Regional Mexican Songs chart in the United States.

The second song released was "Diséñame" ("Design Me"), which was sung by Joan Sebastian. This song also did very well, reaching number 13 on the Regional Mexican Songs chart in the U.S. In Mexico, it was a big hit, reaching number 10 on the Monitor Latino charts and number 3 on the Mexican Airplay Chart.

In Mexico, the album reached number 24 on the Mexican Album Charts. While this was a good achievement, it was a bit lower than some of Lucero's and Joan Sebastian's previous albums. For example, Lucero's Indispensable reached number 16, and Sebastian's Huevos Rancheros reached number 8. Despite this, Un Lujo was nominated for the Ranchero/Mariachi Album of the Year at the 2013 Billboard Mexican Music Awards.
