Union is a small place in Indiana, a state in the United States. It's called an unincorporated community, which means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Union is located in Pike County, specifically within Clay Township.

A Look Back: Union's History

Union got its own post office way back in 1845. This was a place where people could send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for a long time, finally closing its doors in 1955.

It's thought that Union might have been named after Uniontown, Pennsylvania. This was the hometown of one of the first people to settle in the area.

Learning in Union: Schools

Today, all the schools in Pike County are part of one big school district. This district is called the Pike County School Corporation.

  • Union High School: Before 1937, Union had its very own high school. The school colors were green and white. Their sports teams were known as the Eagles.
  • Changes Over Time: In 1937, students from Union High School started going to Petersburg High School instead. Later, in 1974, Petersburg High School joined with other schools to form a new, bigger school. This new school is called Pike Central High School.
