The Story of Unionport
Unionport was officially planned and mapped out in 1837. When a place is "platted," it means someone drew up a map showing where streets, lots, and public areas would be. The community got its name from Union Township, which is the larger area it's part of.
A post office was opened in Unionport in 1878. This post office helped people send and receive mail. It served the community for many years until it closed down in 1902.
