Unionport is a small community located in Jefferson County, Ohio. It's a quiet place, known for its history and its connection to the nearby Cross Creek. This creek is a large stream that flows into the Ohio River, which is about 20 miles to the east.

What is Unionport?

Unionport is an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that don't have their own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

The History of Unionport

Unionport was officially planned and marked out in 1852. This process is called "platting," where land is divided into lots for building. A few years later, in 1855, a post office opened in Unionport. This post office served the community for many years, helping people send and receive mail, until it closed in 2002.
