The United Arab Republic was a country created in 1957. It was formed when two countries, Egypt and Syria, decided to join together. Gamal Abdel Nasser was the president of this new union.
The United Arab Republic lasted for a few years. In 1961, Egypt and Syria separated. Even after the separation, Egypt continued to use the name United Arab Republic until 1971. Then, Egypt officially changed its name to the Arab Republic of Egypt.
