The United World College, USA (UWC-USA) is a special school in New Mexico, United States. It is part of the United World Colleges group, which has schools all over the world. UWC-USA started in 1982 with help from a businessman named Armand Hammer. It is a two-year school where students live and study together. Both boys and girls attend this independent boarding school.

Discovering UWC-USA's History
The idea for UWC-USA began in 1981. A foundation started by Armand Hammer bought the land to create a United World College in the United States. The buildings were updated, and the school opened in the fall of 1982. King Charles III, who was then Prince of Wales, attended the opening. He was the president of the United World Colleges at that time.
Leaders of the School
The first president of UWC-USA was Theodore D. Lockwood. He led the school from 1982 to 1993. After him, Philip O. Geier was president until 2005. Lisa A. H. Darling then took over until 2013. The fourth president was Dr. Mukul Kumar, who was a former student of the school. He left in 2016. Today, Dr. Victoria Mora leads the school. She is from Albuquerque and used to be a dean at St. John's College.
Helping Students with Scholarships
In 1998, the school received a very generous gift. An investment manager named Shelby M.C. Davis and his wife, Gale, donated a large amount of money. This gift helps many students attend the school. It provides scholarships for all American students who are accepted to UWC-USA or any other UWC school. Their gift was one of the largest private donations ever made to international education at the time.
UWC-USA's Achievements
UWC-USA is known for preparing its students well for college. In 2007, The Wall Street Journal named it one of the top 20 schools globally. This was because its students were very successful in getting into top American universities. In 2010, the U.S. Center for Citizen Diplomacy also recognized UWC-USA as a "Top Ten Program."
Where is UWC-USA Located?
The school is in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. It is located in the town of Montezuma, New Mexico. This is just northwest of Las Vegas, New Mexico. It is about 70 miles from Santa Fe.

The school's campus includes a very old and famous building. This building is called the Montezuma Castle. It adds a lot of history to the school's beautiful campus.
