The University of León is a public university in Spain. It has main campuses in the cities of León and Ponferrada. It's a place where students go to learn and get degrees after high school.

The idea for the university started a long time ago, in 1843. That's when a school for teachers and a school for veterinary medicine (animal doctors) were created. These schools were the first steps towards the university we know today. The University of León officially opened in 1979. It was formed from different schools and colleges that were already in León, which used to be part of the University of Oviedo.

In recent years, the university has made cool agreements with other universities around the world. For example, it teamed up with the University of Washington from the USA. This allowed the University of Washington to open a special center in León. Here, up to 500 students can come to learn Spanish! The university also works with Xiangtan University from China. This led to the creation of a Confucius Institute in León, where people can learn about Chinese language and culture.
