A Time of Change
In 2012, there was a plan to close the University of Missouri Press. The university thought it was costing too much money. They planned to let go of its ten employees.
But many people spoke up against this decision. They wanted the press to stay open. Because of this public support, the university changed its mind. In August 2012, they decided to keep the press going.
As part of this change, the press now reports to the main campus in Columbia. Before, it reported to the larger University of Missouri System. A new director was hired in 2013 to lead the press forward.
