Anthony Leonard Platt (born November 28, 1981 – died January 24, 2025), known as Unk, was an American DJ, hype man, and rapper. He became famous for his 2006 hit song "Walk It Out", which was a popular snap track.
Unk's Music Career
Anthony Platt started his music journey in 1998 as a DJ. He met other DJs, DJ Jelly and DJ Montay, and joined their group called the Southern Style DJs. They played music at many events like high school parties, proms, and pep rallies across Georgia.
In 2000, a record label called Big Oomp Records signed Unk. He released his first album, Beat'n Down Yo Block!, in 2006. The album featured his biggest song, "Walk It Out," which became a top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This song was very popular and even went platinum, meaning it sold over a million copies!
In 2008, Unk released another album called 2econd Season. It included the song "Show Out," which also did well. After 2009, Unk faced some health challenges, which meant he wasn't in the spotlight as much. However, he continued to release new music, like "Have A Toast" in 2013 and "Wait" in 2014. He also kept touring and performing at colleges. You might have heard some of his music in the video game NBA 2K9 by 2K Sports.
Unk's Passing
On January 24, 2025, Unk's wife shared the sad news on social media that he had passed away. He was 43 years old.
