Ural Airlines Flight 178 was a passenger flight from Moscow to Simferopol. On August 15, 2019, an Airbus A321 plane had a serious problem right after taking off. Birds flew into its engines, causing both of them to stop working. The pilots had to make an emergency landing in a cornfield. Amazingly, all 233 people on board survived.

What Happened?

The plane, an Airbus A321, was taking off from Zhukovsky International Airport near Moscow. It was heading to Simferopol in Crimea. Soon after leaving the ground, the plane flew into a flock of gulls. These birds were sucked into the plane's engines.

Engines Stop Working

When the birds hit, both engines were badly damaged. They lost power and then completely stopped working. This is a very dangerous situation for an airplane. The pilots, Captain Damir Yusupov and First Officer Georgy Murzin, quickly realized they had no engine power.

The Amazing Landing

With no engines, the plane could not fly normally. The pilots had to think fast. They decided to land the plane in a cornfield nearby. This was a very difficult and risky move. They managed to guide the plane down smoothly into the field. The landing was so well done that the plane did not break apart.

The Heroes of Flight 178

The pilots, Captain Damir Yusupov and First Officer Georgy Murzin, were praised for their incredible skill. They kept calm and used their training to save everyone. Their quick thinking and actions prevented a major disaster.

Everyone Survived

All 233 people on the plane, including 7 crew members and 226 passengers, survived the crash landing. Some people had minor injuries, but no one was killed. This was a truly remarkable outcome for such a serious event. The pilots were given special awards for their bravery.
